Laboratory of Occupational Safety and Ergonomics in Mining

The scope of activity of the Laboratory includes education in widely understood issues of occupational safety and ergonomics. The classes enable students to learn the basic natural phenomena and processes that shape working conditions. Students have the opportunity to get acquainted in practice with measuring instruments and techniques related to hazardous, noxious and inconvenient factors that occur in industrial work processes as well as with issues of monitoring selected factors and hazards in mining plants. Exercises in the Laboratory concern:

  • measurements of noise, dust, vibrations, brightness
  • individual and automatic methanometry
  • testing of mining microclimate parameters and evaluation of work environment microclimate on the surface
  • testing the explosiveness of methane and explosive properties of dust
  • first aid

The scope of performed exercises allows for determination of parameters determining the employees’ exposure to selected factors, reaction to hazards occurring, as well as correct selection of preventive measures.
