In the month of May, we offer a handful of books obtained from our friendly AGH Libraries. These will be books on: health and safety, operation and installation of networks in the power industry; petroleum geology; and engineering graphics. We also present three monographs describing the results of research conducted by their authors. They focus on: estimation of the velocity field in a heterogeneous VTI anisotropic medium; statistical methods in real estate market analysis; and underground CO2 storage in Poland in deep geological structures. Pirowska K.: Estymacja pola prędkości w niejednorodnym ośrodku anizotropowym VTI z zastosowaniem metod optymalizacyjnych, wyd. 2015	The project was financed by the National Science Centre. The aim of the research work was to develop a method for estimating the longitudinal wave propagation velocity field in a non-homogenous VTI anisotropic medium on the basis of surface seismic studies.
Geo-spatial technologies and Earth resources, International Conference on Geo-spatial Technologies and Earth Resource, wyd. 2017	Hanoi University of Mining and Geology and the International Society for Mine Surveying are organizing the International Conference on Geospatial Technologies and Earth Resources in Hanoi on October 5-6, 2017. The conference aims to celebrate 50 years of Vietnamese mining surveyor education (1967-2017) , a special event of Vietnamese mine surveyors. The theme of the conference “Geospatial Technologies and Earth Resources” is an invitation for researchers, scientists and specialists to present research results and directly exchange ideas and experience in the field of applications. The paper provides a broad overview of advances in geospatial technologies and earth resources for readers.
Krupa J.:  Bezpieczeństwo eksploatacji urządzeń, instalacji i sieci w energetyce cieplnej, wyd. 2010	It concerns the technical safety of thermo-mechanical devices. The scope of the operating manual and safe operation, construction and technical requirements for the boiler room, scope of responsibility for the operation and repairs of equipment, rules for carrying out work on written orders and rules for site preparation are described. It is intended for employees of health and safety services, persons operating and supervising the operation of devices, installations and networks, as well as employees managing the activities of persons performing works in the field of operation.
Pomoce projektowe z inżynierii chemicznej i procesowej / pod red. M. Palicy i J. Raczka, wyd. 2010	Extensive information was collected from basic unit operations, including gas and liquid property calculations, hydraulics, heat transfer and exchangers, mass transfer, distillation, drying, filtration, sedimentation, mixing and crystallization. The book is an aid for students of chemical engineering and technology, performing exercises, projects and laboratory work as well as written works in the field of chemical and process engineering.
Maciaszek J., Gawałkiewicz R.: Podstawy grafiki inżynierskiej, wyd. 2007	The book consists of 11 chapters, divided into 4 parts. Part 1 contains the characteristics of various types of technical and geodetic drawings and gives the basic standards contained in standards and technical instructions related to their implementation. Part 2 deals with selected topics in descriptive geometry. Part 3 contains the basics of two programs: Surfer and AutoCAD, while part 4 characterizes and discusses the graphical basics of making the most important drawings and geodetic maps.
Jasińska E.: Wybrane metody statystyczne w analizie rynku nieruchomości, wyd. 2012	The monograph presents the assessment of real estate attributes determination using factor analysis and classification trees. It is an extension currently used methods of real estate market research. Research conducted in Krakow was presented, 2 types of classification trees were used: C&RT and CHAID, both for the regression task, assuming the transaction price as the dependent variable. The author found CHAID trees to be particularly useful in the analysis of the residential real estate market, and factor analysis – in the process of examining the coexistence of land property attributes.
Zubrzycki  A.: Podstawy geologii naftowej, wyd. 2011	Written as an academic textbook for students of WWNiG AGH and students of faculties indirectly related to petroleum issues and having preparation in the field of general geology. The main part of the textbook is based on a series of lectures “Petroleum geology” which the author conducts at WWNiG. The subject of petroleum geology, hydrocarbon deposits and their exploitation was presented, the author also included English terminology.
Podziemne składowanie CO2 w Polsce w głębokich strukturach geologicznych (ropo-, gazo- i wodonośnych)/ pod red. R. Tarkowskiego. Wyd. 2005	The monograph presents the main results of the research project entitled: “Underground storage of CO2 in Poland in deep geological structures (oil, gas and water). The issue of underground CO2 disposal was then addressed for the first time in Poland, which resulted in the discussed publication. research was led by its author, future research problems and further directions of work were indicated.
Mantegna R. N., Stanley H. E.: Ekonofizyka, wyd. 2001	Econophysics is one of the fields of science dealing with the application of certain methods of statistical physics to the analysis of financial markets. The authors define the concepts of financial mathematics and stochastic processes (arbitration, efficient market, central limit theorem, Levy distributions) necessary to understand it. They analyze the correlations of changes in exchange rates and stock market indices and build models to explain these statistics. They also determine the appropriate metrics for the capital market by applying the theory of random matrices to analyze the correlation between the prices of various stocks. They also introduce the reader to options theory and Black-Scholes’ ideal market theory.
