The aim of the Safety Engineering studies is to prepare students in the area of occupational health & safety, the maintenance of technical facilities and their utilities as well as the rational and conscious use of environmental resources, its appropriate treatment and the conservation of its various components, especially in emergency situations. Graduates can pursue employment in, among others: occupational health and safety & environmental protection departments in various industries, administration, rescue services and disaster management institutions, units implementing and maintaining safety systems as well as consulting and training organisations.

Occupational Safety and Labour Protection

    semester
    • You will learn the basic legal and administrative requirements for the OHS – subjects: legal and economic aspects of safety, fundamentals of occupatonal health and safety.
    • You will learn how to use machines, manage hazardous substances and waste in a safe way for people and the environment – subjects: safety and conformity assessment of machines, management of hazardous substances and waste.
    • You will learn  methods to solve decision-making problems in a multi-criteria manner – subjects: multi-criteria analyses in engineering applications.
    • You will develop first aid skills in various emergency situations – subjects: first aid training.
    • You will acquire skills in time and resource management and developing negotiation strategies – subjects: basics of negotiation, organisational management.

    • You will learn to carry out measurements and examination of selected environmental factors and to manage particularly hazardous works – subjects: working environment factors, particularly hazardous works.
    • You will learn about integrated management in organisations and auditing – subjects: integrated quality-environment-safety management systems, occupational health and safety documentation.
    • You will acquire skills in the use of engineering computer methods – subjects: data acquisition and analysis in OHS.
    • You will learn how to predict the consequences of occupational accidents, disasters and catastrophes and how to respond properly in an emergency – subjects: VR technology in occupational safety, rescue response systems, investigation of occupational accidents and disasters.
    • You will learn about the various aspects of safety in occupational health and safety management, crisis and environmental management – the subjects: occupational health and safety management with elements of crisis management, environmental management.

    • You will learn how to design safe workplaces, processes and work environments, and assess the risks involved in them – subjects: risk analysis and management, ergonomic design and work environment organization, buildings safety.
    • You will learn to choose and apply relevant preventive measures to different hazards in various industries – the subjects: occupational safety in construction, occupational safety in the mining, fire and explosion hazards.
    • You will acquire skills in assessing the status of a situation and conducting rescue operations – subjects: planning and conducting rescue operations.

    • You will learn methods for effective teamwork and responsible staff leadership – subjects: pedagogical training, safety culture.
    • You will acquire practical skills in communication and dealing with difficult situations – subjects: public speaking, interpersonal communication.
    • You’ll study and individually elaborate a chosen scientific issue in the field of occupational health and safety – subjects: diploma thesis, scientific circle/research.

Technical and environmental safety

    • You will learn the basic legal and administrative requirements for the OHS and environmental protection – subjects: legal and economic aspects of safety, crisis management, water supply safety.
    • You will learn how to use machines, manage hazardous substances and waste in a safe way for people and the environment – subjects: safety and conformity assessment of machines, management of hazardous substances and waste.

    • You will get to know the tools for environmental management and learn to prepare reports on the impact of projects on the environment – subjects: environmental impact of industrial activity, environmental management.
    • You will be able to diagnose the condition of technical damages in machines, equipment and objects and select appropriate protective measures – subjects: degradation processes of technical objects, fire protection.
    • You will learn about the principles of integrated management in organisations and work organisation planning – subjects: integrated quality-environment-safety management systems, occupational health and safety plan.
    • You will get to know many aspects of how technological processes work in the natural environment – the subjects: water supply safety, water and waste management in industry, energy supply safety.

    • You will learn to integrate environmental aspects into occupational safety management – subjects: circular economy, alternative energy sources, operation of waste management facilities and installations.
    • You will become aware of ways of monitor the impact of human and technical activities on various components of the environment in the production cycle – subjects: risk prevention in industry and the environment, environmental pollution control methods.
    • You will acquire skills in carrying out safety assessments for technical objects, buildings and processes – subjects: modern diagnostics of technical objects, building safety, audit in safety.
    • You will acquire skills in assessing the status of a situation and conducting rescue operations – subjects: planning and conducting rescue operations.
