The aim of the Safety Engineering studies is to prepare students in the area of occupational health & safety, the maintenance of technical facilities and their utilities as well as the rational and conscious use of environmental resources, its appropriate treatment and the conservation of its various components, especially in emergency situations. Graduates can pursue employment in, among others: occupational health and safety & environmental protection departments in various industries, administration, rescue services and disaster management institutions, units implementing and maintaining safety systems as well as consulting and training organisations.

Occupational Safety and Labour Protection

    semester
    • You will learn the basic legal and administrative requirements for the OHS – subjects: legal and economic aspects of safety, fundamentals of occupatonal health and safety.
    • You will learn to perform safety assessments for employees and technological operations, and how to design safe processes – subjects: safety and conformity assessment of machinery, safety of buildings, work environment factors.
    • You will acquire methods for solving multi-criteria decision-making problems using engineering computer methods – subjects: multi-criteria analyses in engineering applications, data acquisition and analysis in OSH.
    • You will acquire skills in providing courses and trainings & managing time and resources – subjects: methods of conducting courses and trainings, basics of negotiations, managing organisations.

    • You will learn how to measure and examine selected environmental factors, manage risks and design safe workplaces – subjects: risk analysis and management, ergonomic design and work environment management.
    • You will know principles of integrated management in organisations and auditing – subjects: integrated quality-environmental-safety management systems, safety audit, OHS documentation, occupational health and safety management with elements of crisis management.
    • You will learn to choose and apply appropriate preventive measures for hazards in various industries – subjects: particularly hazardous work, occupational safety in civil engineering, occupational safety in mining, fire and explosion hazards.
    • You acquire an insight into ways of prediction of the accidents at work consequences, disasters and emergencies, and appropriate responses in emergency situations – subjects: VR technology in occupational safety, planning and conducting rescue operations, investigating accidents at work and disasters.

    • You will learn methods for efficient teamwork and responsible leadership – subjects: pedagogical training, safety culture.
    • You will acquire practical skills in communication and dealing with difficult situations – subjects: public speaking, interpersonal communication.
    • You will study and individually elaborate a chosen scientific issue in the field of occupational health and safety – subjects: diploma thesis, scientific circle/research.

Technical and environmental safety

    semester
    • You will learn the basic legal and administrative requirements for the OHS and environmental protection – subjects: legal and economic aspects of safety, crisis management, water supply safety.
    • You will learn how to perform safety assessments in industry, conformity assessments of machines and safety assessments of technical objects – subjects: safety and conformity assessment of machines, safety of buildings usage.
    • You will learn methods for solving multi-criteria decision-making problems using engineering computer methods – subjects: multi-criteria analyses in engineering applications, computer methods in engineering calculations.
    • You will develop your skills in managing organisations and developing negotiation strategies – subjects: the basics of negotiations, organisational management.

    • You will learn to consider environmental aspects in occupational safety management – subjects: circular economy, alternative energy sources, operation of waste management facilities and installations.
    • You will get to know the instruments of environmental management and learn how to prepare reports on the impact of projects on the environment – subjects: environmental impact of industrial activity, environmental management.
    • You will learn how to monitor the impact of human and technical activities on the various components of the environment in the production cycle – subjects: hazard prevention in industry and the environment, environmental pollution control methods, security of energy supplies.
    • You will be able to diagnose the technical condition of machinery, equipment and construction objects – subjects: modern diagnostics of technical objects, degradation processes of technical objects.
    • You will be aware of the principles of integrated management in organisations and auditing – subjects: integrated management system quality-environment-safety, auditing in safety.
