Building high school networks
On March 3, 2022, an agreement on cooperation between the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Resource Management of AGH and the ZS Nr 1 im. Stanisława Staszica in Olkusz. The subject of the agreement is to undertake joint activities aimed at the professional development of students and support in choosing their further career paths. Representatives of our Faculty headed by dr hab. Eng. Marek Borowski, prof. AGH visited the School Complex as part of the Professions’ Week. During the meeting, an important moment was handed over to the Director, MSc. Aldona Nowicka, an agreement on cooperation between the School and the Faculty.
Environmental Engineering offer
The event was both formal and educational. Immediately after the introductory speeches, the students were presented with the offer of both the University and the Faculty, emphasising its essence in the current realities of the labour market. Vice-Dean for Cooperation, Marek Borowski, presented several benefits resulting from the choice of studies at the AGH University of Science and Technology. In addition, as a sample of knowledge that can be obtained while studying at our Faculty, selected issues in the field of Environmental Engineering were discussed, with simultaneous encouragement to membership in Student Research Groups. This part of the event was started by a PhD student Klaudia Zwolińska, who introduced the idea of indoor microclimate using practical examples, experimental measurements and numerical simulations. Then Adam Ciupa presented the “Kliwent” Research Group and continued the subject of the microclimate, discussing its research on a specific example. Another topic presented is the AGH-WIND project, implemented as part of the “Rector’s Grant” competition. Klaudia Krawczyk, a member of the Research Group “Ekospirit”, one of the five groups involved in the project, presented the scope of the activities and showed the final effect.
Engaging presentation
The presentations met with a very positive reaction from the students who listened to the speeches with interest. The next part of the meeting was a general discussion about studying. There were also questions about recruitment, first feelings when starting studies and how to pursue studies. Students willingly provided tips and insights that could be useful for future AGH students.
The AGH University of Science and Technology and the ZS No. 1 in Olkusz are linked not only by the patron, which is Stanisław Staszic, and a similar establishing time of both institutions but also by the educational topics covered. Technical school students can develop their professional knowledge and expand it with related issues by studying at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Resource Management. As a continuation of the cooperation, students were invited to visit and participate in laboratory exercises at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Resource Management. It is an exciting proposition if one wishes to get familiar with refrigeration and air conditioning technicians who can continue their educational path in “Environmental Engineering”.
