On November 16-18 was held the second international meeting within realization of educational project DigiRescueMe. The project is being financed from European Union budget within Erasmus+ program, action KA220-VET – Cooperation partnerships in vocational education and training.

The meeting was one of five planned during project realization. Apart from AGH representatives each participating unit sent 2 delegates. Among the participants there were:

• Oktay Şahbaz and Prof. Hakan Aykul – representing Dumlupinar University from Kütahya (Turkey), which is the leader of the Project;
• Prof. João Santos Baptista and Adeeb Sidani – representing University of Porto (Portugal);
• Sergio Miranda and Prof. Ruggero Andrisano Ruggieri – representing University of Salerno (Italy);
• Ramazan Bozbey and Cemre Atay Çankaya – representing the school Nurettin Çarmıklı Madencilik Mesleki ve Teknik Anadolu Lisesi (Turkey)

The Polish side which took part in meetings took away from Krakow and at AGH consisted of Prof. Tomasz Niedoba – coordinator of the project from Polish side, Prof. Agnieszka Surowiak, Prof. Zbigniew Burtan, Dr Zbigniew Kuczera, Dr Dagmara Nowak-Senderowska, Dr Natalia Schmidt-Polończyk and MSc. Michał Dworzak.

The main goal of the project is to elaborate modern educational standards concerning mining rescue with application of newest visualization techniques, including 3D environment. That is why our guests had an opportunity to pay a visit on training field in “Wujek-Staszic” mine in Katowice where they descended underground and could see both actual and old mining installments as well protecting constructions. The next stage was the visit at Regional Station of Mining Rescue in Jaworzno where thanks to the hospitality of the head of this unit – Mr Zbigniew Kubica was possible to get knowledge about history of mining rescue in Poland as well actual training possibilities and requirements from this aspect. The day was finished with the meal at the restaurant “Borowa Chata” in Jaworzno.

Second day was a typical working day when the achievements made and actions taken within the Project so far were presented as well the opinions were shared and the work schedule for the upcoming months was established. So far within the Project the specialized questionnaires were done, which were divided into three areas: “Rescue” – concerning the knowledge about mining rescue techniques, “Risk assessment” – concerning risk evaluation and “Mental wellbeing” – concerning mental condition of both rescuers and people having contact with them. The results of these questionnaires were the basis to conduct detailed interviews with the specialists of mining rescue and persons which are trained in this direction. The purpose of these interviews is to determine the guidelines for training materials and educational curriculum especially in context of implementing computer 3D environment. At the end such material and programs will be implemented to education in vocational schools and our university as well.

The meeting on 17th of November was held in Aula JSW and Dean of Faculty of Civil Engineering and Resources Management – Prof. Marek Cała graced us with his presence who made a very interesting speech about recent mining catastrophes in Poland underlining the meaning of appropriate and precise training of people which can save somebody else’s life. It is also worthy to underline that students of our Faculty took part in the meeting for whom the Erasmus+ program offer was also presented.

Next session of the meeting was moved to Professors’ Club where presentations of the representatives from all participating units took place. Among others, Prof. Oktay Şahbaz, Prof. Sergio Miranda, Prof. João Santos Baptista, Adeeb Sidani, or Ramazan Bozbey had their speeches. From Polish side Prof. Tomasz Niedoba and MSc. Michał Dworzak presented their materials. Next, a lively discussion took place which lasted till the late evening hours. The day was finished with gala diner at “Sukiennice” restaurant on Main Square.

The last day of our foreign guests’ visit was more informal. The trip to Salt Mine Wieliczka was organized where it was possible to see wider route, so-called Mining Route, thanks to the politeness of the mine’s authorities. It was then possible to visit places where regular tourists cannot enter. All of this gave much wider perspective on the mine itself as well its former commercial significance. The evening of this day was announced as free so our guests had the opportunity to buy some souvenirs and visit Krakow’s monuments by their own.

The next international meeting within the Project DigiRescueMe will be held most probably in July 2023 in Porto, Portugal.
