February novelties

In February, we present two new AGH publishing houses from 2022. The first one is “Outline of Ceramics History” by Agnieszka Gubernat and Magdalena Zarzecka-Napierała, an interesting example developed by the authors of the topic. The second one is “Basics of management theory in problems and tasks” by Piotr Grabowski. Descriptions of both of these publications are presented in our summary, our behaviors are unique in their own right and worth attention. In addition, we offer our readers titles on railway engineering, geology, mathematical analysis, construction drainage, and also about risks associated with miners in relief efforts. Detailed information is provided as usual in the table below.

Gubernat A., Zarzecka-Napierała M.: Zarys historii ceramiki, wyd. 2022	On the one hand, the monograph is a kind of historical compendium collecting in a short form the most important facts from the long and rich history of ceramic materials and the ways of their use in various fields of human activity, and on the other – it is a colorful journey through epochs, cultures, styles and techniques of decoration. The work describes ceramics from the first clumsy products to the peak achievement, which was the invention of hard porcelain, as well as its further wonderful development, including both production techniques and decorative techniques. The study is not limited to bare facts, it is not encyclopedic in nature, it is a living story of an archaeologist, art historian, ceramics expert. It offers the reader a broad look at the history and use of ceramic materials, showing their importance in the past and today. This publication may be interesting not only for students of materials faculties, but also for people who are starting to be interested in ceramics.
Wojtasik A. T., Troć M., Nowak M: Wprowadzanie do odwodnienia budowlanego obiektów kubaturowych, wyd. 2020	The study is not limited to bare facts, it is not encyclopedic in nature, it is a living story of an archaeologist, art historian, ceramics expert. It offers the reader a broad look at the history and use of ceramic materials, showing their importance in the past and today. This publication may be interesting not only for students of materials faculties, but also for people who are starting to be interested in ceramics.
Grodzicka A.: Badania ryzykownych zachowań górników, wyd. 2012	Risky behavior of miners is taking actions that may lead to dangerous events, which means that individual and independent undertaking of rescue actions is risky behavior or risk-taking. (Psychologists usually locate a tendency to them in personality.) A risky situation is most often a situation that arises in mining during an unbreathable atmosphere. The study used a 3D Howard model. The monograph uses surveys conducted among miners. The undertaken research problem concerns risky activities in mines in emergencies and falls within the scope of 2 basic areas of knowledge and practice: 1. Protection of human life and health in the working environment, 2. Mental and sociological conditions of the work process.
Inżynieria kolejowa – szanse i wyzwania = Railway engineering – opportunities and challenges, 64. Konferencja Naukowa Komitetu Inżynierii Lądowej i Wodnej PAN oraz Komitetu Nauki PZITB, Krynica 2018),wyd. 2018	The subject of the monograph has been largely dominated by the issues of railway infrastructure. It addresses the issues of designing railway engineering structures, railway subgrade, construction and operation of railway bridges and tunnels on railway lines, including the issue of fire safety. Some chapters deal with design and research issues, including the use of satellite measurements and research problems of high-speed railways, as well as numerical analysis of traction networks. Issues in the field of railway traffic engineering were also discussed, such as the use of long trains or the analysis of the capacity of the track system in mathematical terms. It is worth emphasizing the comprehensiveness and high degree of originality of the considered issues, as well as the high level of theoretical considerations, while maintaining the set goal, which was to give the presented solutions practical applicability.
Kremzer M.: Wstęp do analizy matematycznej, algebry i równań różniczkowych, wyd. 2022	A set of tasks unlike any other, which will help you master a wide range of material in an innovative way, without having to use a calculator, paper and pen, and using only your own head, because the authors focused on learning and developing skills through fun. The set of tasks is intended primarily for schoolchildren, candidates for studies and students, but it will be successfully used by anyone who wants to expand their mathematical knowledge and develop analytical skills or remember the basics of mathematical analysis, algebra and differential equations.
Grabowski P.: Podstawy teorii sterowania w problemach i zadaniach, wyd. 2022	The script was created on the basis of lecture notes and auditorium exercises in control theory, optimization theory and introduction to control of systems with distributed parameters (basics of control in Hilbert spaces), which the author conducted in various fields of education of basic and doctoral studies. These notes were developed and published in 2005–2020 on the author’s website in experimental XML/MathML technology. The emphasis is on the accuracy of the presentation of the subject matter. Nevertheless, the scope of the material is comparable to the collections of tasks and problems known from similar foreign publications. The monograph is a significant contribution to the methodology of solving problems and tasks in the field of control theory and optimization. The author consistently uses the advanced apparatus of linear algebra and functional analysis, and he cares about the accuracy of his arguments and the variety of issues.
Wyzwania polskiej geologii: 3. Polski Kongres Geologiczny, wyd. 2016	The Polish Geological Congress was initiated in 2008 in Krakow and is the most important scientific discussion forum for geologists of all specialties in Poland. The presented volume is subtitled “Congress Materials” and describes the issues that were of interest to the 3rd Polish Geological Congress, which focused on the challenges faced by contemporary geology.
