9 February 2024 All day
On January 15-17, 2024, another working meeting of the partners was held as part of the implementation of the DigiRescueMe project. In addition to the traditional TPM (Transnational Project Meeting), LTT (Learning, Teaching, Training Activity) also took place. On the Polish side, both parts were attended by Prof. Tomasz Niedoba, PhD, DSc, Eng., and Agnieszka Surowiak, PhD, DSc, Eng., Associate Professor, AGH University of Science and Technology. The meeting place was Salerno, Italy, specifically the Università degli Studi di Salerno. The meeting was hosted by Prof. Sergio Miranda and Prof. Ruggero Andrisano Ruggeri. The meeting was attended by representatives of all partners involved in the project and, additionally, guest mine rescue experts from the TÜMAD gold mine in Türkiye.
The meeting was divided into a part related to TPM, the purpose of which was to discuss the activities and effects of the project implementation so far, as well as the tasks that must be completed in the near future. In the LTT part, there was a training related to broadly understood mental health and the need to relieve stress related to the work of a mine rescuer.
On Monday, January 15, all project partners presented their achievements so far. As you know, the main effect of the project will be the development of a VR cave, where students of the mine rescue course will be able to take part in the simulation of various types of accidents, both in underground and open-pit mining. It is worth mentioning that AGH UST has already provided 20 scenarios of such accidents, which will be used in the simulation currently being developed by the employees of Universidade do Porto in Portugal. In addition to the content related to the simulation, AGH UST is also tasked with developing a curriculum for a subject related to risk assessment during rescue operations, as well as mine rescue in general. The finished course, along with VR tools, will be implemented both at the universities participating in the project, as well as at partner schools, i.e. ZST in Rybnik.
In the afternoon, the first part of the lecture was held to increase awareness and the need to conduct psychological tests both among the victims of mining accidents and the rescuers themselves. Prof. Ruggero Andrisano Ruggeri prepared a very interesting material for this purpose, and the classes were conducted using the “brainstorming” method. In the evening, the hosts of the meeting invited a large group of guests to one of the pizzerias in the city of Salerno.
On the second day, all partners in the project were busy with activities that must be completed soon. There is just over half a year left until the end of the project, which means that the effects of the project must be mostly ready by the end of March 2024. In addition, AGH UST will have to organise training and presentations related to the use of the developed VR software. This will be facilitated by both conferences and internal meetings at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Resource Management of the AGH University of Science and Technology. Next, Prof. Ruggeri presented the second part of his very carefully prepared speech. It is worth mentioning that the issue of mental health plays a very important role in the implemented project and, next to risk analysis and issues related to the organization and execution of rescue operations, it is one of the key issues in mine rescue. In the evening there was another nice evening, this time spent in a traditional Italian restaurant, where you could taste the typical Campania cuisine.
The third day of the meeting was devoted to a trip and a meeting with representatives of the local drilling company. We visited, among others, the picturesque cave Grotte di Pertosa-Auletta, and then we tasted mozzarella cheese produced in the town of Battipaglia. In the evening, a working meeting was held with representatives of a local company Sip & T producing construction drills. One of the topics was the submission of a potential project application with the participation of the above-mentioned company. On the way back, there was an opportunity to visit the famous ruins of Pompeii and then to get acquainted with the beautiful city of Naples, located at the foot of the famous volcano Vesuvius.
The next, last working meeting of the DigiRescueMe project will most likely take place in September in Turkey, where the final results of the project will be discussed. The exact place and date of the meeting have not yet been determined.
