Terrain outing as a part of “Work Safety in Construction” course

On the 14^th of April students of safety engineering had a remarkable opportunity to be a part of practical terrain outing, that was organized as a part of course, named “Work Safety in Construction”. It’s main purpose was to conduct an inspection of the construction site of Cracow’s municipal cubicle investment, located in the city center.

Constructions work and safety examination

The main purpose of the terrain outing was to accurately examine health and safety conditions on the construction site. Students focused on identification of possible safety hazards and evaluation if current work safety regulations are being obeyed. For the entire time of inspection, students were mainly focused on work and safety rules where construction workers do their job.

Getting familiar with practical aspects of working in construction

Terrain outing should not only be understood as an inspection. First of all, it was the best possible way of education for students. They had an opportunity to see practical aspects of working in construction area, based on real life and how are workers in fact acting. They could go through different stages of construction projects, see how all the equipment is working, as well as deeply understand the meaning of cooperation and communication in such area.

Thanks to this outing, Safety Engineering students had an opportunity to expand their knowledge and  to develop their skills in the area of health and safety in the construction site. Moreover, meeting professionals, and observation of their work in real life was a valuable educational experience.

Conclusion is obvious – terrain outing that was a part of “Work Safety in Construction” course was not only a valuable educational experience, but also an opportunity to get familiar with how work and safety regulations are obeyed on the construction site in practice. Such experience is extremely important for future safety engineers, who will be responsible for creating and shaping safe working conditions in the area of construction.
