Report from Barbórka 2021

ceremonial deliberations of the senate agh

December 9 @ 08:00 December 10 @ 17:00

On December 9 and 10, 2021, the statutory holiday of AGH – “Barbórka” took place. The celebrations were held for the second time according to the changed situation resulting from the epidemiological situation in Poland and the world.

Student Opening

The celebrations began with the 62nd Barbórka Conference of Students’ Research Groups, which was held on December 9, 2021, according to the following program:

• 8:30 – Grand opening of the conference.

• 9: 15-16: 00 – Debates in thematic sections.

• 17.00 – Summary of the Barbórka Conference of Student Research Groups – presentation of diplomas

As part of the conference, 17 thematic sections were organized, and one of them, due to the number of submitted papers, was divided into two parts. The sections were held in various formulas, 12 of them traditionally and the rest online or hybrid. Two hundred seventy-five students from thirteen faculties of AGH and 11 foreign guests took part in the conference. A total of 186 papers were presented. The papers were assessed in terms of originality, substantive content and the method of reporting (including the time regime) and the visual aspect of the presentation.

At 17:00, the official summary of the conference began, including the announcement of the results in individual thematic sections.

Celebration of the Miner’s Day

On December 10, Miner’s Day began at 08.30 with a Mass at the Collegiate Church of St. Anna. In compliance with all applicable safety procedures, the AGH UST Representative Orchestra honoured the mass, the choir of the Song and Dance Ensemble Krakus and the entourage of young foxes. We have listened to the comforting words of Fr. prof. Tadeusz Panuś, which strengthened the hope in our hearts.

At 1:00 p.m., a formal meeting of the AGH UST Senate was held, attended by members of the AGH UST Senate, University Authorities and the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Resource Management as well as people who were awarded, on this particular day: with mining degrees, Scholarships to them. Other representatives of the authorities, employees, and AGH UST friends and supporters had the opportunity to participate in this event online. The guests were welcomed by the AGH UST Rector, prof. Jerzy Lis. The Voivode of Małopolska, Łukasz Kmita read the letter from Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. The next part of the ceremony was led by the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Resource Management, prof. Marek Cała, in his speech, presented the rationale for changing the name of the Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering, which took place on May 26, 2021, and summarized the events of the current year related to the activities of the department.

The award ceremony – Solemn Senate

Another point of the ceremony was the presentation of the awarded mining decorations and ranks. Among the awarded, there were employees of our Faculty, and so:

• the 3rd degree General Director of Mining was awarded to prof. Patrycja Bąk,

• the first degree of Mining Director was awarded to PhD. Aneta Napieraj and dr hab. Eng. Paweł Pichniarczyk,

• the 2nd degree of Mining Director degree was awarded to PhD. Rafał Łuczak.

As every year, the Barbórka celebrations were an occasion to award the “Kryształowa Barbórka” Faculty of Mining and Geoengineering with an Honorary Distinction. Crystal Barbórka No. 31 and 32 were awarded to PhD. Krzysztof Król and MSc. Henryk Paszcza.

Krzysztof Pawiński Scholarships were distributed to doctoral students who distinguished themselves with good academic results and commitment to research and organizational activities for the Faculty and the University. They were collected together with the statuette of the “inkwell and peacock feather” by MSc. Katarzyna Styk and MSc. Adam Zwoliński.

The culmination of the mining festival was a ceremonial jump through the skin (appointment as a member of Gwarectwa – miner brotherhood), which was traditionally held in the hall of pavilion A-0.

This year’s Miners’ Feast, which usually ends the Easter celebrations at AGH, is still ahead of us.

We cordially invite everyone to it on February 10, 2022.
