July 17 – July 21
DigiRescueMe
On 17-21 of July, 2023 another working meeting within DigiRescueMe project was held. This time, apart from traditional TPM (Transnational Project Meeting), lasting for two days (17-18 of July) also LTT (Learning, Teaching, Training Activity) took place. From Polish side Assoc. Prof. Tomasz Niedoba and MSc. Michał Dworzak took part in the meeting representing AGH. The location of the meeting was Porto city and in particular Faculty of Engineering of University of Porto. The hosts of the meeting were Prof. João Santos Baptista, Prof. Jorge Cabral Dr. Jacqueline Castelo-Branco and MSc. Adeeb Sidani.
Project aims
The meeting was opened by the v-ce dean of the Faculty of Engineering – Prof. Renato Manuel Natal Jorge. The goal of the TPM meeting was to discuss the already obtained results. Prof. Sergio Miranda from University of Salerno presented the report from surveys and interviews analysis which were done in cooperation with the experts from mining rescue sector in Türkiye and Poland (Focus Groups method). The obtained material allowed to precise the needs in range of traineeships considering risk analysis and search and rescue actions performed in mining. The additional aspect was a psychological analysis related to personal taking part in rescue action or being a victim of mine accident. The coordinator of the project – Prof. Oktay Şahbaz from Dumlupinar University in Kütahya, Türkiye presented the goals which were already achieved comparing to the actions time schedule of the project. He claimed that we suppose to have ready the whole input material necessary to realize VR CAVE, which is the main planned effect of the works. The basic task of Polish side is to elaborate 25 scenarios of rescue actions performed in both underground and open-pit mines. This will be the basis to regenerate them in VR environment. This task was already done partially and supposes to be done soon. Apart from it, Polish side is also responsible for preparing the syllabuses of modernized teaching modules with VR technique taken into account. This offer is directed to the disciples of mining vocational schools as well to the students of specialties related to mining.
LTT during DigiRescueMe
Next, on 19-21 of July the LTT meeting which was in fact VR training took place. During it the basics of handling and creating the scenes by means of graphical engine Unity were introduced. Unity is second most popular graphical engine after Unreal. The participants of the meeting got familiar with the basic handling of the program as well to move into virtual world which was earlier created by themselves by means of Unity. Apart from fun, this was the opportunity to get knowledge which then can be transferred to the attendants of courses conducted in AGH or in friendly mining schools from Rybnik and Lubin.
SHO’23
Apart from scientific-training side related to DigiRescueMe project there was also an opportunity to take active part in international conference SHO’23 (International Symposium on Occupational Safety and Hygiene) which was held in Universidad do Porto within 20-21 of July, 2023. It gathered about 300 participants from the entire world. Furthermore, there was an opportunity to visit the city of Porto which riverside at Douro River is on the World Heritage list of UNESCO. It was also possible to try traditional Portuguese dishes, especially fishes and seafood as also famous vines being produced in this beautiful city.
Next meeting
The next DigiRescueMe meeting will be held, probably in Salerno, Italy in January, 2024.
